NFPA 1001, Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications

This academy covers the job performance requirements (JPRs) in the following chapters of NFPA 1001, Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications, 2019 edition as a refresher course designed to meet the minimum standards for TCFP and SFFMA Fire Fighter II Testing. 

This academy covers the job performance requirements (JPRs) in the following chapters of NFPA 1001, Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications, 2019 edition, and NFPA 1072, Standard for Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Emergency Response Personnel Professional Qualifications, 2017 edition.

This course is based on NFPA 1001: Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications. The course is designed for the person who seeks the knowledge and skills to function as an integral member of a firefighting team under direct or general supervision in hazardous conditions. The Fire Fighter I course consists of a combination of classroom study, drill field practice, and training evolutions that will prepare the firefighter to perform most fire ground functions under the supervision of an officer or experienced firefighter.

The course is designed for the person who seeks the knowledge and skills to function as an integral member of a firefighting team under direct or general supervision in hazardous conditions. The Fire Training Academy course consists of a combination of classroom study, drill field practice, and training evolutions that will prepare the fire fighter to perform most fire ground functions under the supervision of an officer or experienced firefighter.


Individuals who successfully complete all course requirements will be eligible to take the State Firefighter's & Fire Marshals' Association (SFFMA) Hazardous Materials-Awareness, Hazardous Materials-Operations, Fire Fighter I, and Fire Fighter II certification test.  They may also take Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) Fire Fighter test.



This course is based on NFPA 1072, Standard for Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Emergency Response Personnel Professional Qualifications, supplemented by information from government agencies such as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the Department of Transportation (DOT).  This course is for emergency response personnel who may be first on the scene of a hazardous materials emergency at the awareness & operational level, acting in a defensive posture to protect people, the environment, or property from the effects of an unplanned hazardous materials release.
