This course is based on NFPA 1072, Standard for Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction for Emergency Response Personnel Professional Qualifications, and NFPA 1001, Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications.
The course is designed for the person who seeks the knowledge and skills to function as an integral member of a firefighting team under direct or general supervision in hazardous conditions. The Fire Training Academy course consists of a combination of classroom study, drill field practice, and training evolutions that will prepare the fire fighter to perform most fire ground functions under the supervision of an officer or experienced firefighter.
Individuals who successfully complete all course requirements will be eligible to take the State Firefighter's & Fire Marshals' Association (SFFMA) Hazardous Materials-Awareness, Hazardous Materials-Operations, Fire Fighter I, and Fire Fighter II certification test. They may also take Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) Fire Fighter test.
